End of March Update

Like I said, I know I have been a bad blogger lately. I am buckling down and trying to finish up my degree, so that means algebra, which I am horrible at, so after trying to work out those jumbled numbers, I haven't felt much like writing. That, along with training and being a wife and mom, I find myself trying to find balance, again.

My 29th birthday was on Wednesday, so this is my last year in the female 25-29 year old age group. This makes me slightly nervous since the 30-34 ladies are FAST, but I can only hope I get fast with them. Joel made me a giant cookie, I wanted that instead of cake, and got me some Under Armour shirts, a Starbucks gift card, some bath stuff, and a small crock pot for making dips. Perfect gifts for me! I can't believe I am almost 30! I could swear I was just turning 19 the other day......

New Orleans 70.3 is on April 22nd. Training is coming along, but not as well as I feel it should be. Fortunately, I read an article on Triathlete's website about early season half ironman races. It was reassuring to me because it mentioned early season half irons, such as those in March and April, are a sort "see where you are at" as opposed to a "PR" race. I can definitely relate to that right now and New Orleans will be a measure of where I am right now. I haven't been running enough because of my ITBS flair-up, so my run volume is nowhere near it needs to be for a 70.3. But, I already paid for the race, pre-paid for the hotel, and all plans are set in motion, so I am going. Loraine is going with me as my sherpa, so it will be fun to hang out in New Orleans together, it has been a long time since we have taken a "girls trip".

My bike and swim volume is where it needs to be for a 70.3. It amazing, I have always had a strong dislike for swimming since I started tri training, but ever since I got my Garmin 910xt I like it more. With this watch I realized it wasn't the swimming I hated, it was the trying to keep track of laps because of my crappy memory. With the pool swim function on the Garmin 910xt I can just swim and swim and swim and let the watch do all the work, I love it! Cycling is going well, I did a good 50 miler today with a 2 mile brick run. I am still on the bike trainer 2 days a week with the long bike ride on the road on the weekend.

Something I am struggling with right now, I really want to do another ironman. It has been difficult to stick to the plan of doing three 70.3s and being happy with it. Ironman Louisville is not sold out right now, and I am struggling fighting the temptation to register. The plan this year was to do three 70.3 races and get fast at that distance, and go back to iron distance next year and do ironman Louisville 2013. There is a lot of uncertainty in our lives right now, so now is probably not the best time for me to take on an another ironman, but by this time next year things should be stable again, so when I take a step back and look at the big picture, I can fight the temptation, and know I am doing the right thing.

  1. Thanks for the update! I share your frustration with counting laps during long swim workouts. I am always losing track of what lap I am on. I should checkout the new Garmin 910xt.

Oh, and as for Ironman, I was very close to signing up for IMCDA last year at the last minute. I am glad I didn't, it was nice to have the chance to focus on other races and have fun. That has helped me do so much better this year.

  2. Thanks for reading Mike! Now that New Orleans 70.3 is coming up, fighting the temptation to not sign up for another ironman is a little easier.

The 910xt is worth the big price tag! I love mine!
